WWMT Questions / Counter Strike Source
August 09, 2013, 02:09:45 AM
Hi there, I haven't posted on here in quite some time. My question is pretty simple.

I've been having trouble getting models to export from 3ds max, and I presume it's usually my fault for not knowing much about 3ds. How important is having Counter Strike Source for importing/exporting with the source engine? It's usually the go-to thing for textures and other sorts of things.

I've owned Half Life 2 and TF2 through the Orange Box for the longest time, and with Garry's mod they've been sufficient, but I'd always be missing a texture or something with certain servers. And I couldn't find a GameConfig.txt in the bin of my Half Life 2 folders. I'm just wondering if I set WW up wrong or something.

WWMT Questions / Re: Question about bones
May 06, 2013, 10:01:19 PM
Hrm... I tried using the bone tool to set the root, doesn't seem to change much, if at all.

The root-transform seems to be on the correct place, but the bones still seem to just be off center for whatever reason. I have the rotate origin and other options besides calculate origin in smd turned off, so idk why it's doing that. It plays the animations perfectly fine in 3ds. And I doubt the scale would have anything to do with it, though I don't really know a whole lot about 3dsmax.

Okay I got the bone tool to work, guess I just had to restart my 3ds for whatever reason. But after setting the Root, for some reason I get this if I try to hit the export model button:

Not quite sure what you mean by assign a model to the WW UI.

I have the model selected and ready to export, but still get that.

WWMT Questions / Question about bones

Hi there, I've gotten everything to work swimmingly with exporting and getting the models in the source engine. But for some strange reason the bones of the model seem to be places off center. Like so:

The origin seems to be on the correct place, at the base of the feet. But the bones are lowered, and rotated funny. In 3dsmax the animations work fine, so somewhere exporting it it skews them.

Any ideas?

What does this mean? It popped up a few days ago, then went away. and Now it's back. I figure I must be doing something wrong.

General Discussion / Re: VTF Problem

Hahahaha, okay I figured it out.
Thank you for replying! And so quickly as well. But the solution was way more simple and I feel stupid.

When I exported the Model phase with WW it worked and ran the batch file that actually produced the .mdl and files Source could read, for whatever reason, when I exported the Material part it made the .VMT, but didn't run the batch file that was made inside of my "\sourcesdk_content\hl2\materialsrc\myproject" folder.

All I had to do was go into that folder and run the batch.

Hope this helps anyone that has problems with this, could be some weird Windows security thing. But seeing as to how the Model part worked just fine I don't know what the problem was. Works now!

I do need to shrink it a little tough

General Discussion / VTF Problem

I am trying to export a model to use in the Source Film Maker by exporting it with Garry's Mod settings (because they transfer easily as I can tell).

Exporting the model works great, flawless and simple. But the texture is giving me grief. As far as I can tell I've set it up properly, because I'm only trying to convert a model the base is a bitmap, using a tga file which I set to the diffuse map (I don't know much about 3dsmax, so I followed the instructions I found on youtube pretty closely). But when I try and export the materials it gives me a vmt but no vtf.

My material editor looks like this, I don't know if that would be causing the problem.

I know that it looked slightly different in the videos I watched, but I've tried multiple things, including his way, and none to any avail.

Here's the folder it should be exporting to.

As you can see it's empty aside from the vmt.

Here's the working naked model:

Any ideas? Props if you can tell what the hammer is just from it's shape.
