Hello,

I'm trying to export an imported SMD/QC, I've tried both explicit normals and face render normals, but they both produce a faceted model. How can I get it to export the smoothing groups?

3DS Max 2016, Windows 10, Wall Worm Model Tools v2.723

Thanks,

Not sure why it's failing. Click File > Save As ... Archive and send the ZIP to me. My email is in the WW download readme.

Got your email. I opened the file in Max 2016 and exported via WWMT. I tried in both WW SMD export mode and WW Pro. You can see below that the smoothing in the exported file is identical to the file in Max.

I'd say to verify if Max has SP1 installed. Be warned that Max 2016 SP1 has a known memory leak.

Ok it works fine with Wall Worm Model Tools but not with Wall Worm Exporters.

Just tested the manual SMD exporters and compiled and got the exact same results. Are you sure that the QC you have is actually compiling to the MDL file you think? All I did was make sure the exporter was set to Explicit Normals and all exports worked identically (both manual and via WWMT).

In my test, I renamed the SMD file that is made by WWMT. I then exported the model manually to the file name that WWMT had made (in this case boomer.smd). I then double-clicked the boomer.bat in the WWMT folder, which recompiled the model (with the new SMD). The results were identical.
