Tried both Max 2014 and 2017 with latest Wall Worm. Clicking "Export VTFs" within WWMT produces the following script error:

Ah! It seems this happens when your material editor is empty.

An empty material editor shouldn't affect this. I'll look into what's going on. It may be an issue if WW Pro vs WW Free.

Can you provide me with the exact set of steps you did to get this error?

I tried to replicate this problem and could not. The only error I could produce is to create a WWMT Helper in the scene then delete that helper and click the Export VTF button when that helper had been deleted. So I updated WW just now to make that error not possible... but that error was different than the one you created. So I need you to send me a sample scene that causes this error.
