General Discussion / Re: texture problems

Can you link me a tutorial on how to texture in 3ds ?

Search on YouTube... There are hundreds. Here's a quick walkthrough:

1. Press M on your keyboard to open the material editor. In the menus, switch to standard slot editor (that's the only one I know how to use).

2. For the diffuse color, click the button next to it and select Bitmap.

3. Select a TGA format texture for your model.

4. Click OK to return to the slot editor. Drag and drop the texture slot over your model. You should see the model's textures change. You may need to re-UVW map it with a modifier (sometimes, not always).

5. Export with WWMT.

Hehe, what this forum needs is a Like button. Here's a free one, haven't tested it:

Thanks for all your effort.

I have a couple hundred models that still need exporting lol... I've been too lazy to export them one by one so I've been holding off on Source mapping for a while. I can test a couple of models and see if they export if you need any testers.

I have a 3DS Max student account which my high school had created for me 5 years ago. Funny thing is that it still works. I'm going to download 2014 and take a whirl, but there's not much I can do. My total hours on Max is less than five hours, and I barely know how to meddle with it. Most of my time is spent on the programming side of things (game programming specifically), so if you give me UDK or CryEngine and Visual C++ and ask me to build a game with it, it'll be a piece of cake :) The actual modeling part is what always gets me. People have told me that I'm a talented programmer, but I just don't know how to model assets or animate them in Motion Builder or Max or whatever. If anyone wants to work on an Indie game together, count me in :D

Whoa! This is absolutely incredible  :D Thanks man!

If I recall your other post, you mentioned that Convexity might get an update (although you were still unsure). Would this still happen if they do release an update? Probably not but just wondering. Forgive my silly questions  :)

General Discussion / Re: Wall Worm Game Server

Awesome!  :D Unfortunately though, I don't own any of the games (the only Source games I have are L4D1 and L4D2). I am a freshman (becoming sophomore now) in college, and my studies are quickly catching up to me (getting harder and harder). I don't have the money or time to invest into new games, but the fact that WW has a game server is pretty awesome. I'm a moderator at l4dmaps (and consequently csgmaps and tfmaps), so if you need help promoting your maps, let me know :) I'm always on the side of the mappers / modders because it's you guys who keep the industry alive. Keep up the good work!

General Discussion / Re: Wall Worm mourns a loss

That's the spirit! I expect something great ;) Keep me posted :)

You know, life is like a candle. It lights up quickly, and it whispers away just as quickly. If you ask me, I think there's more more to it than meets the eye; things that no one can answer about life or existence. I'm sure there's something after this life (like Heaven), and I know you will reunite with your father again (we as a species are all part of this cycle). Glad to see you doing well.

EA keeps bringing out shitty games, so why not?

All good ideas!

I hope that you are faring well. I know how it feels like to lose a loved one. It has happened to me, and it's a natural cycle of life. Hang in there! From what I grasped from your eulogy, your father was a great man. He will be in my prayers.

Yes, that helps a lot. Thanks for your hard work!

If I add some complex geometry like chandeliers and book shelves (part of the world), would that cause a problem? If I put all my static geometry in Convexity Walls.
#28
I'm a broke college student who is in debt, so I can't even afford the educational version of Convexity. Using WWMT Anvil without Convexity, would I be able to build a level in Max (at least the layout) to get it into Hammer? Would all the models I place in my scene be exported as static geometry? Assuming I have Generic Units with my Home Grid set to a power of 2 and all the basic 3DS Max setup done.

WWMT Questions / Re: Is this possible?

That would be awesome! I'm really struggling trying to batch export these files... Looking forward to it! Whenever it happens, I'll be there.

Lastly, thanks for your hard work on WWMT. It is by far one of the greatest assets for Source 3d design! Thanks again.

WWMT Questions / Is this possible?
March 17, 2013, 12:49:01 PM
Hi WWMT community,

I was working on a project a long time ago, gave up on gaming for a while (life issues) and uninstalled steam, now started mapping again. After installing Steam again, I noticed that Steam had deleted all of my custom content (including WIP maps) :( Now, I have about 400+ models that I need to export from WWMT again. Is there a way I can batch export 400+ *.max files to MDL? I will appreciate any advice whatsoever! Thank you!
