I'm dabbling into some 3D films (for stories I've been working on for many years). As such I've been researching various resources for making the character design faster.

I've already owned Character Pack for years and it's an awesome toolset. I also own Ornatrix. These tools go a long way in what I'm working on. Mixed with CAT in Max, I am already fairly well established in starting it.

But I've been researching new resources to expand and enhance the tools I have without having to spend any more money. I've come across some resources that might interest those of you who do a lot of character animation:

MakeHuman
3ds Max-friendly BVH files (free motion capture)

Anyone else with any cool resources? Preferably free ones?

I've found some good tutorials on http://www.3dtotal.com/index.php. Also I find http://www.digitaltutors.com, has alot of good informative demo content. I was surprised how much I've learned from just the free videos they provide demo accounts. Granted thought its not totally free if you want to finish watching some of the lessons. Also https://www.mixamo.com/, is offering some free riging/animation for adobe photshop users.

Excellent. I'll give them a look.

I have had a Mixamo account via the Autodesk Animation Store... but it appears that I cannot log in to it anymore. Perhaps this is due to Adobe buying it. I was actually going to buy a sequence from it but couldn't because it wouldn't let me log in--which is why I searched and found the free mocap resource linked above (which has over 2,500+ human action sequences).

I'd love to find a resource of:

  • CAT Sequences for Human (to skip mocap conversion)
  • CATMotion Presets for Human Rigs
  • Facial Studio Presets

Of course, although I'm sure there are plenty of collections of these, they are probably guarded assets inside studios that have no good reason to share.
